Texas is heading into a new phase of growth. The proposed high-speed rail between Dallas and Houston would cover about 240 miles in just 90 minutes. Modeled after Japan’s N700S Shinkansen, the train system could transform how Texans move, do business, and connect across the state.
After years of delays, shifting leadership, and federal setbacks, the project now has new life under private ownership. At the same time, some of the most resilient, high-performing companies in the country are building that future—right here in Texas. That’s where the Texas Trailblazers portfolio comes in.
Why We Invest in Texas-Based Stocks
At BFG Wealth Management, we build portfolios around real economic value, not just headlines. Our Texas-Based Stocks strategy is about owning companies with strong fundamentals, growth potential, and deep roots in one of the most business-friendly states in the country.
Texas leads in oil and gas, but that’s just the beginning. It’s also a hub for tech, real estate, logistics, and manufacturing. Cities like Austin, Dallas, and Houston are seeing massive population and job growth, and the companies based here are right in the middle of it.
We use this strategy to give clients targeted exposure to long-term trends: energy security, housing expansion, infrastructure upgrades, and digital transformation. Texas has a track record of leading through volatility, and the companies in this portfolio reflect that.
A Turning Point for Texas Transit
The high-speed rail project was originally launched by Texas Central Partners, with the goal of building the first bullet train in the U.S. Trains would hit speeds of up to 205 mph, cutting travel time between Dallas and Houston to about an hour and a half.
Then came the shakeup. In April 2025, the Trump administration canceled a $63.9 million federal grant, and Renfe—the Spanish rail operator slated to manage the system—pulled out shortly after. Most assumed the project was dead.
But that’s not what happened.
Fort Worth investor John Kleinheinz took control of Texas Central and committed to move the project forward without federal dollars. Permits are in place. Legal authority has been secured. And now, with private capital leading the charge, the project is back in motion.
Why It Matters
This isn’t just about saving a few hours on the road. A Fort Worth economic study estimates the bullet train could add up to $5 billion per year to Dallas County’s GDP by 2029. Texas is growing fast, and the cost of doing nothing—expanding highways, adding congestion—isn’t cheap either.
There’s also the energy angle. All-electric trains reduce emissions compared to cars and planes. That opens up opportunities for innovation in energy infrastructure, battery storage, and grid modernization—sectors already represented in the Trailblazers portfolio.
How the Portfolio Fits In
The companies we own aren’t betting on Texas growth. They are creating it.
AECOM (ACM) is one of the world’s top infrastructure and engineering firms. They’re likely candidates to take on large-scale rail and transit design in the state.
Atmos Energy (ATO) is one of Texas’s largest gas utilities. As the state electrifies and expands, Atmos helps support energy demand across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
Tesla (TSLA) operates a massive Gigafactory in Austin and leads the way in EVs and battery tech. Rail electrification and grid expansion are long-term tailwinds.
Oracle (ORCL) has growing operations in Texas and provides the software backbone for logistics, automation, and data systems that will support future mobility.
These are just a few names in the portfolio. Others include leaders in materials, midstream energy, homebuilding, and real estate. All are based in Texas and stand to benefit from the same growth forces shaping the rail corridor.
Bigger Picture: Growth You Can See
We’re not chasing narratives. We’re investing in what’s already underway. New people, new businesses, and new infrastructure are pouring into Texas. The state’s economy has scale, speed, and staying power. And while the bullet train gets the headlines, the bigger story is the ecosystem growing around it.
The Texas Trailblazers portfolio is built to capture that. Whether it’s supplying materials, powering communities, or building out tech systems, these companies are positioned to grow with the state.
Bottom Line
The Dallas–Houston bullet train is more than a transportation project. It’s a signal that Texas is ready for what’s next. Private capital is stepping in. Local businesses are driving innovation. And the companies building this future are already investable today.
We designed the Texas Trailblazers portfolio to give clients smart exposure to that growth—grounded in fundamentals, focused on real-world opportunity, and built for the long run.
